93 Quivet Cellars 2006 Las Madres Vineyard Syrah (Carneros); $38.
"Very black and dense, a super-young wine that shows pedigree and promise for development. Impresses for its fine structure of thick tannins and acidity, and the way the lush black currant and chocolate fruit meets the toasty oak. Good now, and should improve for up to four to five years, at least."

"Myriad and Quivet from Mike Smith.
I cannot say enough good things about the Myriad and Quivet wines from Mike Smith. I have mentioned this before, if you are not on their mailing list, sign-up today. These wine rock and the pricing is extremely reasonable."

" Tasting notes from a couple recent evenings,
2006 Quivet Syrah, brawny and fairly tannic but with plenty of concentration and very strong raw materials. From Mike Smith of Myriad, should be very good by the time it's released later this year.
2005 Myriad Cab, really coming into its own as it resolves and comes together, and while it could still use another year or so as Mike recommends, it's drinking pretty damn well right now, especially if decanted."

"Myriad Syrahs are the best Syrah I've ever had in Northern California. Compared to some of the best syrahs I've ever had in my life from France. Not to mention the Cabernet. Mike Smith winemaker said.."they only get better". If thats true holy smokes.
Quivet wines had so much texture and front to back top to bottom mouth feel it was extrodinary.
Mike Smith's wine making techniques are a lost and forgotten art. Too bad there are only a handful of other people who respect winemaking like Mike does. And this isn't hype. These have been tasted and they are to be believed.
Some of the Oak he buys goes into Ausone, Petrus, Pax, Harlan...so from top to bottom these wines are special. Sources are noted on the websites I believe.
Both of these wine are hand crafted by Mike himself. I saw it with my own 2 eyes."
